Mountain Landscape by Michael L. Coleman

Limited Edition Prints

"The ideal landscape," says Michael L. Coleman, is one that strikes a balance between reality and emotion, between observation and pictorial treatment, thereby capturing and expressing an eternalized moment in time. A painting should communicate an inner state, a yearning, a fantasy, a feeling independent of the subject of the painting, yet aroused by the reality of it." (Left, Big Horn Sheep, Limited Ed. Print)

Born and raised in Livingston, MT, near Yellowstone National Park, he believes that his youth in Yellowstone taught him "to see nature with the same interest and intensity that a portrait painter would study a face." In his art, he says, "I am primarily concerned with selecting and reorganizing nature according to my feelings."

Coleman's father was a forest ranger, and accompanying his father into the Yellowstone back country as a youth, gave him a deeply personal appreciation for the natural landscape impossible for artists who merely travel through. In college, when non-objective art was the fashion, he majored in accounting. After two years in the Army, he made his living as an accountant while studying art and painting in his spare time.

The artist now lives in Bremerton, WA. Big Horn Sheep by Michael L. Coleman
